Import and Export

The core of Noolingo is the Markdown text format. The biggest benefit of this design choice is that your data truly belongs to you. You can freely import content and export anytime without any format restrictions. At the same time, the plain text nature also makes AI enhancement features more flexible and powerful.

Why Markdown

Many learning tools use proprietary database formats to store content. While powerful, this creates problems: data gets locked into specific software, making it difficult to migrate or process with other tools.

Noolingo chose Markdown as its core storage format because Markdown is an open, universal text format. It's both human-readable and processable by various tools. This means:

Your Data Always Belongs to You: All notes are stored as plain text. You can open, edit, and view them with any text editor.

Cross-Platform Compatibility: Markdown is widely supported. Whether you're using other note-taking tools, document editors, or online platforms, they can all handle it easily.

Free Input and Output: You can import content from various sources and export to anywhere that supports Markdown.

Easier AI Enhancement: Plain text format allows AI to more accurately understand, analyze, and process your content, whether it's generating flashcards, summarizing notes, or answering questions.

Importing Content

Noolingo supports importing your learning content from multiple formats:

Importing from Text Files

If you already have notes in Markdown or TXT format, you can import them directly. Noolingo supports:

  • Importing a single file as a single note
  • Using two or more blank lines to separate different notes, importing multiple at once
  • Importing multiple files as a ZIP archive
  • Using the first line of a file as the title, or using the filename as the title

For example, you can create a Markdown file with blank lines separating different notes:

My First Note
This is the note content

Second Note
Another note's content

Importing from Other Learning Tools

If you're using other learning tools, such as Anki, Noolingo also supports importing.

When importing from Anki, the following formats are supported:

  • .apkg format (Anki deck package)
  • .colapkg format (Anki collection package)

Supported flashcard types include:

  • Basic flashcards (front/back)
  • Cloze deletion
  • Image flashcards

The import process is simple: export your deck as .apkg format in Anki, then select "Import from Anki" in Noolingo.

Importing from HTML and JSON

Noolingo supports importing HTML and JSON format data exported from itself, facilitating knowledge sharing and migration. Note: These formats are mainly for content sharing and won't retain original learning records.

Exporting Content

Based on the Markdown design, Noolingo provides flexible export options:

Exporting a Single Note

You can export any note in the following formats:

  • .md (Markdown format, preserves all formatting)
  • .txt (plain text format)
  • .html (web format, suitable for sharing)
  • .doc (Word document format)
  • .json (structured data format)

By default, exports don't include learning data (such as review records, mastery status, etc.). If you need to preserve this data, you can export as .noopkg format.

Exporting All Data

Noolingo provides a complete data export feature in .noopkg format. This format is essentially a compressed archive containing all your notes, learning records, and settings. You can use it to:

  • Create complete backups of your data
  • Migrate data between different devices
  • Save historical versions

To export all data, go to Settings > Local Storage > Export All Data.

AI Enhancement Advantages of Markdown

Because Noolingo uses Markdown as its core format, AI features can better understand and process your content:

More Accurate Semantic Understanding

Plain text format allows AI to more accurately identify content structure and meaning. Whether it's headings, lists, or code blocks, they can all be correctly understood.

Flexible Flashcard Generation

AI can analyze your Markdown notes, automatically identify key content, and generate high-quality flashcards. Bold text is automatically recognized as concealable content, making flashcard creation more intelligent.

Intelligent Content Processing

Whether summarizing notes, expanding knowledge points, or answering questions, AI can provide more accurate and useful results based on Markdown's clear structure.

Format Preservation

When you use AI enhancement features to modify or expand content, Markdown formatting is completely preserved without breaking the original structure and style.

Data Freedom

Noolingo believes that your learning data should belong to you. Choosing Markdown as the core format makes this commitment a reality.

You can export all your content anytime, open it with any text editor, and process it with any tool that supports Markdown. You don't need to worry about data being locked, format incompatibility, or data becoming inaccessible if a feature disappears.

This freedom is what Noolingo wants to give you. Let you focus on learning without worrying about data issues.
